The first steamboat

Rumsey Tavern is a restaurant, bar and event venue in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, owned by Tanya McClung, Josh Prichard and Courtney Turpack since April 15, 2026. It takes its name from James Rumsey, who gave the first public demonstration of a working steamboat here in 1787, in the oldest town in West Virginia, chartered in 1762.
